Awatar Ltd is recruiting experienced record collectors all over the world for freelancing work as remote shoppers. The tasks that you'll perform will come down to digging through crates of vinyl records, inspecting, purchasing them (at physical shops, fairs, flea markets, etc.). In rare cases also packing them up and mailing them out via courier service. We need people who have sufficient experience with handling and inspecting second-hand LPs, and are familiar with the Goldmine Grading Standard.

We're a tech startup that aims to help people — primarily record shop owners and higher-end collectors — to stock up on second-hand records remotely, including from abroad. We arrange that by using locals as remote proxy shoppers. Our company acts as a middleman between shoppers and buyers and makes sure both sides uphold their end of the deal. We're legally incorporated in the UK and USA.

📅 Schedule

Flexible hours, no minimum commitment. You’ll get a personal account on our app, where you’ll set up your availability calendar.

Furthermore, you will decide yourself whether to accept each particular task that comes your way.

💵 Pay

Expect a pay that's comparable to driving an Uber: sometimes a bit less, or a bit more depending on where you are (but always more fun than Uber).

You will get paid by the hour, plus a flat fee per task to cover commute and such. Your salary will be paid out to your bank account.

Ultimately the rate is flexible too: you can experiment with different numbers and see how many clients you get.

🧙🏻‍♂️ Qualifications

Speak English fluently. Have sufficient experience with handling and inspecting second-hand LPs: know what to look for when trying to tell a VG+ from a VG. Be familiar with “vinyl-speak”. Soft skills are a big plus: punctuality, friendliness and patience (remember it's a service job).

🌎 Hiring geography

We will accept applications from everywhere, but we'll onboard you first if you're in one of our priority areas. Our priority is on major cities that would be worth coming to from abroad for a vinyl hunting trip. Typically, it’s all cities of 500k+, with metro areas of 2M+, and usually with at least 10—20 local record shops. The more the better.

There is a small number of countries where we can’t easily send money to, but there are less and less of such restrictions over time, so it’s better to apply and we’ll see what can be done in your particular case.

📱Gear

Required: A modern smartphone (ideally 2019 or newer), iPhone or Android.

Also required, but we may provide: A SIM card with a ton of mobile data (ideally unlimited).

✴️ Highly recommended: A power bank (portable battery) of 3000mAh or more.

👍 Bonus points: Not a requirement, but personal transport might come in handy for heavier loads of records. An automobile, a cargo bike, a mule, etc.
